Zachary Alan Pew

Last night, Saturday 11 August 2007, at 11:15pm our new baby Zachary Alan Pew was born. He weighed 7lbs 12ozs and was 20½ inches long. Janae’s labor was practically perfect; which was a great relief considering how Aubrey entered the world. On Thursday morning at about 6am she began contracting and was pretty regular at about 12 minutes apart. By 9pm that night she was pretty steady at 6 minutes apart so we made our way to the hospital. She was only dilated 2cm so they sent us walking around the hospital for an hour and a half which didn’t accomplish much by way of dilation, but increased the intensity of pain. So, we were sent home to a long and sleepless night. We contracted all day Friday and at about 6:30 she was contracting every 2½ minutes so we went back to the hospital. At this point she was dilated to 5cm. We were admitted at 7pm and contracted hard and fast until 9am at which point they checked her at 8cm and her water broke on its own. For two more hours she contracted at about a minute apart and felt the need to push right before 11pm. We pushed for 15 to 20 minutes (actually only about 10 pushes) and Zach was born. Janae was an extremely relaxed laborer. We took a 12 week labor class which focuses on relaxation techniques and training husbands to be more than an extra piece of furniture in the delivery room. In all honesty, she never yelled out in pain or made any real noise at all except for a few low moans and deep steady breaths. She didn’t even yell at me (YOU DID THIS TO ME!!!!) and only broke a sweat with her last 4 or 5 pushes. Zach is and Janae are doing very well and will come home tonight or tomorrow at the latest.
